We have an election coming up here in Australia. We also have terrorist activity in the region. We have all the typical pandering to the voters from the politicians. We also have what I’m beginning to feel is the worst commercial media pool in the free world.

Tonight on the 5:30 news on Channel 10 a reported finished a story about the various promises offered by the labour and liberal parties with a statement to the effect of.. ‘The Prime Minister cannot guarantee that there will be no terrorist attacks launched against Australia‘

Well no shit, but neither can the greens, or the opposition leader, Hitler’s ghost or Jessica Simpson.
Regardless of who or what you’re going to vote for, blatantly pointing out that one man cannot do the impossible isn’t the best way to show your journalistic integrity. Also on tonights news was a story about Victoria’s state of readiness regarding terrorist attacks and how we would fare in a variety of scenarios. An exercise in seeing how often the station can have the words ‘terrorist’, ‘JI’,'Bio-chemical’,'Bomb’ and ‘attack’ repeated in any 30second window.
