The Witcher

Very recently my ISP partnered with 3Dgamers.com and have now started mirroring their content, unmetered, for all their Personal ADSL account holders. What this means for me is that I get to download oodles of game trailers, patches, demos and whatnot, without having to worry about those downloads eating into my monthly download limit ( 32GB, not so much a worry ).

While I was vistitingthe site I saw some very pretty screenshots for a game called The Witcher. So I downloaded the high-res trailer ( 45MB ) and had a look. I was very surprised to see that the game was built using the Aurora engine that was developed by Bioware and is used for Neverwinter Nights and it’s two expanions. If you’ve played NWN then you’ll recognise the engine once it is pointed out to you, but it seems like the developer has somehow managed to make Aurora look, well, nice..

The Witcher seems to be based upon the work of a well known Polish fantasy writer Andrzej Sapkowski so there’s no issue of having to come up a with a story, just having to shape the game around the existing successful story.

Good looking, established engine, solid storyline, fantasy elements.. I’d say this was an almost certain success if it wasn’t Atari publishing it…
