Ooookay, this is more than a little odd and a little disconcerting..

I just receieved an email at my Yahoomail account ( little more than a spamtrap now ). The message appears ( on the surface ) to be a Delivery Failure notification from Yahoo ( but isn’t ).
This in itself is unusual as I very very rarely actually send email from there.

The second surprise comes when I open the email and the original mail was addressed to many many people, again.. I dont send mass emails.. ever..

Third surprise.. by this time i’m assuming it’s either viral or a spam… then I notice the names… Talen..Zubrette.. itagne.. ( Cabal ;) )..

These are all names from years ago! This looks more like someone has ransacked my addressbook and has been sending stuff out. Including a file called text.zip! I dont know about you, but I’ve got an awful lot of stuff sitting on my system in plain text format that I dont want anyone mailing.. so by this time I’m thinking of viruses, and how secure my password isn’t.. ( many digits, random alpha-numerics with CapiTAliSatION, but written in my XP cd-case ) and searching my system for appropriately named files.

I took a look at the IP addresses listed in the mail and “tracert”ing them… I think I’ve narrowed it down to one person living in NZ… one of only two or three people that would have all the people on the list, and a notable absence from the email itself. Still.. a rush of excitement for a while..

If anyone wants to see the mail ( there are no valid email addresses there afterall ), i’ve put it up at http://www.platinumweaver.net/oddmail.php

Enjoy.
