So where -have- I been? Pt. 2
Yeah Yeah, I’m slack and I don’t update as often as I say I will, or I should, or you’d like.
This week I actually had an almost decent amount of work, which is nice!
I’ve been doing Wonderful things with BitTorrent & and my DSL connection.
I have been ( of course ) taking photos of anything interesting that I see, and took my camera to a little wildlife place so I have some snaps from that.
I have been listening to VAST heaps, due in part to a conversation I had on New Year’s Eve. Good music.. I like!.
Tommorow I head off to MassiveLans again, this time I’ll probably/hopefully/maybe be dragging my mate Adam along. He is just as geeky as me, but has only recently started to shift the focus of his geekiness over to computers.
I’ve also found and investigated my first real complaint with my camera. The camera is a 3.2megapixel camera, meaning 3.2million pixels are used to capture the image. Uncompressed as BMP file, that would produce files approxiamte 8mb in size. With JPEG compression you would expect the size to come down a lot, so most 3.2MP cameras produce pictures approximately 1mb-2mb in size. The range of sizes ( and therefore quality ) of pictures my camera is taking, is 250KB -> 1.5MB. What the camera is doing is being very very harsh when it comes to what detail it is keeping in, and what it is taking out.
A technically worded email to Kodak for advice and confirmation resulted in a form letter about the different resolutions of pictures that the camera can take, but nothing regarding the actual problem, the overzealous noise-reduction and image compression algorithms.
This is not to say that I dont like the camera, or that the shots are bad… but that there is something that I would improve if I had the chance.
