Rising Sun

There seems to be some controversy regarding the release of the lastest in the ‘Medal of Honor’ series of games, and the subsequent positive reviews in the Japanese Gaming Scene.

The game is called Medal of Honor: Rising Sun and as one would imagine, features battles for the Pacific against Japanese forces during WWII. The main issue seems to be not that the game was released in Japan or that it is violent or realistic or even overpriced, but that reviewers and ( to a lesser extent ) gamers are happy to play a simulation where they are basically killing people that could conceivably be based on their parents and grandparents who fought in the war.

I for one dont understand how this differs from any of war-based game that has been released in the last 3 years. In Battlefield 1942 you play as either Allied or Axis, you shoot people from the other team, who might or might not be on a team that your family may have fought for in real-life, during a real war.

If I was to join a multiplayer game and be placed on the Axis team, I wouldn’t complain that I wont be a party to the murder of my countrymen or family, so why is it suddenly such a big deal?
