There seems to be some controversy regarding the release of the lastest in the ‘Medal of Honor’ series of games, and the subsequent positive reviews in the Japanese Gaming Scene.
The game is called Medal of Honor: Rising Sun and as one would imagine, features battles for the Pacific against Japanese forces during WWII. The main issue seems to be not that the game was released in Japan or that it is violent or realistic or even overpriced, but that reviewers and ( to a lesser extent ) gamers are happy to play a simulation where they are basically killing people that could conceivably be based on their parents and grandparents who fought in the war.
I for one dont understand how this differs from any of war-based game that has been released in the last 3 years. In Battlefield 1942 you play as either Allied or Axis, you shoot people from the other team, who might or might not be on a team that your family may have fought for in real-life, during a real war.
If I was to join a multiplayer game and be placed on the Axis team, I wouldn’t complain that I wont be a party to the murder of my countrymen or family, so why is it suddenly such a big deal?

What the hell is it about Eddie McGuire that makes shows he is hosting run overtime? I’m sitting here waiting for the DS9 series final, and thanks to Eddie’s IQ test running 30mins over, I’m still hearing about the rugby on the tail-end of the late news.
Annoyed? yes..

I don’t know, maybe I’m just a little bit cynical, but when I see an advert like the ‘Beautiful’ blue ad on this webpage my trust in the webpage just drops like a stone. It probably wouldn’t bother me if it wasn’t for the site’s mission statement.
The site is how to not get trapped by people, and they recommend the site as a good example of a legit site, but the supposedly legit site recommends them as a good site. I should set up a website to recommend this website as a good website, then recommend my new site as a good site-recommendation service.
Swish, eh?

MassiveLans are having another event this weekend ( 15th, 9am till late ). I will of course be attending for at least half of the time the event runs. I’m still a little out of whack from last weekend’s all-nighter, but I’ll still be there.
Someone’s already told OCAU, so I’m guessing the only person reading this in a position to come is Adam, but they.. you never know..

At the moment I am wondering why it is that people feel comfortable telling complete strangers about their sexual activities.
I’m not referring to the plethora of online newsgroups, message boards and help-websites. These I can understand, you have a problem and want someone to help you without making eye contact. This is good, this is right, there are no problems here.
The type of situation I’m talking about seems significantly less appropriate to me. This is where person A, lets call him ‘Bob’ is having someone come over to set up his brand-spanking-new ( pun intended ) computer. Bob then explains to the poor computer technician, lets call him ‘Me’, that what he really uses the computer for is ‘The Sex Movies’, and that he doesn’t use his instant messenger software in case a message pops up when he’s watching one of the ‘Pretty Ladies’. He also complains that his 10gigabyte download limit a month is not sufficient, and he frequently downloads more than this.
Enough!!
Am I wrong in thinking that this is too much information to be giving to someone whom you’ve met 30 minutes earlier and who was using your mouse at the time of the conversation?
It’s bad enough showing people that their Internet Explorer browsing history is listed.
Or explaining that every website they go to gets cached on their hard drive by showing them a random .jpg from the list.
Or recovering photos for them from their camera memory card that they accidentally formatted and getting an eyeful of their fiancée.
Or simply being asked, Why is this streaming video such poor quality?
Do I really need to be told why they’re getting this stuff? Cant I just pretend I didn’t see any of it and move onto how to change their screensaver?

Saw ‘Matrix: Revolutions’ today.
Didn’t hate it.
When I formulate more of an opinion than that, I’ll post it, but I will say that the film is very much open to interpretation.
