Spring-esque

Damn i’m going to enjoy spring when it finally gets here. Of course, with a window overlooking a park, a nice hot summer could be nice as well ;)

Something for nothing.. ( or not )

See this, this is what used to be a big rambling rant about customers that avoid mentioning payment becuase the methodology that they impose on me makes the job I do for them take longer than the time they’ve paid for.

This was a bitter sarcastic and ultimately pointless bitch session… note the was

This is now a testament to the mellowing effects of the latest album released by Coldplay known as A Rush of Blood to the Head.

A good bitch would’ve done me good.. meh..
Peace

Bonzi

I focused all of my not-unimpressive resources on finding out why Bonzi Buddy was evil after a friend asked, and I couldn’t find any evidence. There were ( and are ) lots of websites that say that Bonzi Buddy is evil and Must Be Stopped but not any at all that I could find that explained why it was evil..

Delegation was the name of the game here, so my crack team of researchers carefully peered through page after page till they discovered this little gem, which actually explains why BB is considered to be evil.

Thank you.

no username, no comment

I’ve been looking into how I can set it up so that you have to give a username when you want to comment, and short of having a login feature ( which I dont want to have ) I cant see a way that people couldn’t get around within 5seconds if they really wanted to.

Seeing as it’s only people who are supposedly my friends that are posting here, no-one should really care enough to want to find security loopholes, but I really cannot be bothered implementing something.

So if you’ve got something to say, make sure you dont accidently delete your username from the comments section, or chances are it’ll be deleted.
If you do post something anonymously accidently, just follow up telling me who you are and I’ll gladly stick a username in for you ( sans bold ).

That is all, carry on.

Panoramas at 2am

I mentioned a while ago that I still had a few more shots from Canada that I would like to make into panoramas and put online. I finally got around to doing that this evening, so here we go.. The first should be instantly recognisable to just about everyone, the second is a night-time shot of Toronto from our apartment block north of the city centre.

Enjoy

Teach me a lesson

So I have question.. it’s not XML or HTML related, it’s not about php or MySQL and it’s not going to be asking you to guess who is a serial killer and who is a programmer…
I just want to know, which is a better hot weather colour, Black or White?

ToEE Again

They’ve released a preview of the opening cinematic for Temple of Elemental Evil ( ToEE ) on gamespy. If anyone has even the slightest interest in Greyhawk in general or this game I would recommend downloading it.. except gil who’s stuck on dial-up..

Of course, opening cinematics, while being a nice touch, generally have little impact on the game, but at least in this case it shows you some backstory, unlike that pointless Neverwinter Nights cinematic…

Billy’s Blaster Blunder

First, I apologise for the title. I didn’t mean it, it meant nothing to me, I was drunk…

Second, if you haven’t heard yet, there’s a new uber-worm spreading through the ‘net at the moment, called w32.Blaster by Symantec or Lovsan by McAfee. This one is getting a lot of airtime during the news, even though anyone patching their system even slightly regularly should have have already closed the vulnerability that the worm uses.

Normally I find out about these threats a few days to a week after they hit the fan, but today I actually tech’d system suffering from a W32.Blaster infection, so I’m quite happy really.

The widespread outbreak does go to show just how many people run around with systems running Microsoft products and not updating them via http://windowsupdate.com/. Live and Learn I guess.

RSS Feed

I should now have some sort of RSS feed available at http://www.platinumweaver.net/rss/journal.xml or the link in the top right of your screen. If you dont know what that means, then you probably dont need to worry about it.

While we’re looking at the top right of the screen, do you see a login box? If so, you’re currently not logged in and your name is not automatically being added to any comment you make. How do I know this? I keep finding nameless comments.. gil & murl.. so why not just save us all the trouble and type something vaguely descriptive in that little text box and hit ‘login’.
The cookie that is written contains nothing but your chosen name, and will not be used by any site other than platinumweaver.net, so what’s to lose?

Canada Photos

Finally!” you probably say, and to be honest I have to admit that it took me longer that I would have expected to get the shots up. They’ve been sitting in a directory online for a few days, but I finally put together a front-end kind of dealio.

You can access it from the menu on the right, or by clicking here. I have run through the system a few times just to make sure that everything works, so there shouldn’t be any 404’s or anything nasty like that. If there are, please give me a yell and I’ll fix it ASAP.

Thanks to all who’ve been pestering me about getting these shots up.. now shut up! :)

Be well, Enjoy…
Dean
